The history of TIS Cumbria Limited

Founded by Tony O’Pray in 1995, TIS Cumbria Limited initially provided chemical companies and West Cumbrian fabrication shops with inspection and NDT services.

Complimenting site inspection work, the company expanded into ultrasonic testing and industrial radiography, acquiring specialist industrial units and equipment.

John Bragg joined the company in 2000 – marking further extension into the engineering sector with the addition of fabrication and machine welding services.

Attracting more substantial orders and gaining ISO9001, the company relocated a number of times and now has multiple sites in West Cumbria.

Constantly re-investing in the business we have excellent in-house capability and do not rely on sub-contractors (over 95% in-house) ensuring control over projects to meet client deadlines and budgets.

In 2010 we expanded again – to premises creating a new HQ with an additional 2,500 sq ft of offices, meeting rooms and training facilities and crucially 11,000sq ft extra production space. We added specialist orbital welding equipment and introduced a design service which offers a bespoke design service as well as providing an integral function on major projects.

In 2014 we saw the opening of the our newest facility. The extra capacity has allowed us to take on larger, more diverse contracts and with immediate effect, the facilities began working on major new nuclear decommissioning contracts.
